[IMPORTANT] Extreme Rollback

We have some bad news. I've had to rollback to the the 9th. We are running out of disk space and I tried all kind of things to free up space, and they all are not working. The best I can do is remove certain communities and try and prune when I can, but I don't know what to do at this point.

The only way is to I guess upgrade space, but I don't know how long that will last. I'd like some thoughts about it, I guess.

  • I'm curious, how much space does the srv take rn?

    • 46gb/49gb

      • Seems really excessive. The lemmy.zip admin does regular server performance posts and they're only sitting at ~140gb despite being much larger and image heavy. See HERE

  • No offense, but it's not very active here. I don't think anyone is going to take it personally if you have to pull the plug. The two largest communities can be recreated on a larger server(if they don't exist already). That's up to you chief, no judgement here.

    • yeah...I didn't realize the software wasn't mature enough to not have purging tools for stuff like this. I've been not responding because I like having a little thing like this, but didn't realize it would guzzle up space like that.

      • Sorry! I really didn't mean for that to come off as rude as it sounded. I just meant, worst case scenario, if the server ends being a massive pain to manage/fund then you shouldn't feel obligated to keep it up. I wonder if the lemmy community has something similar to the mastodon admin discord group where you could maybe compare notes with other admins about storage/config issues.
