The Arizona Cardinals have released their expected starting quarterback Colt McCoy less than two weeks before the team’s season opener against the Washington Commanders.
This is fascinating since he was the presumed starter while Murray is out. We’re pretty sure they’re goal isn’t to win games so it can’t be that they think they can get someone better.
My best guess is they want to see what they have in Clayton Tune or maybe they just want a QB that’s a little closer to Murray’s play style so they don’t need two playbooks. Although Tune and Josh Dobbs aren’t really close to Murray, they’re closer than McCoy.
The other option is they wanted a sliver more cap room or maybe they think Tune will win too many games. Weird situation though.
They could view this year as a lost year anyway so getting the 1st pick for Caleb Williams or a draft haul to trade out of 1 for the rights to Williams could be their angle.
