There were certainly times where I would lay in bed not being able to fall asleep, be wide awake way too early, or wake up more frequently than I would hope. Even then, my watch reported better sleep quality and I felt more rejuvenated.
Is it great not sleeping "normally"? I guess not. But let me tell you it's worlds better than passing out on the couch with all the lights on then fighting the alarm with a hangover the next morning.
Almost a year in, I can tell you that it gets better and it's 100% worth a bit of inconsistent sleep patterns.
If you've been dependent on alcohol for a while, your central nervous system will have adjusted to it.
Once you stop, the CNS goes a bit nuts because it's used to alcohol sedating it. That's why some people die from withdrawal, and also a key reason for anxiety while quitting.
It'll get better, but it takes time. It can be very helpful to find healthy alternatives. Exercise is fan fucking tastic for this, even if it's just a 15 minute walk. Cutting out stimulants like caffeine may also help, I'm not as sure about that.
