‘Superman’ Estate Sues Warner Bros. Discovery To Block Film’s Release In Key Territories
The estate of Superman creator Joseph Schuster is suing Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics alleging that its planned release some key territories is illegal.
The countries are Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
Reading the article, I don’t understand why they’re not suing in the applicable countries since this seems to be a copyright question for those countries and I doubt an American court would be interested in deciding those questions, nor would they have jurisdiction to block those releases in those countries.
IANAL but if they want to assert copyright in the UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia, wouldn't they have to file suit in those countries and not New York?
The assertion is copyright there is different from copyright here, how is a New York court supposed to rule on that? 🤔
