Hard to imagine the level of sheer small-minded, malicious spite it must take to try to deliberately injure people because they're using infrastructure that you don't like.
I experienced it first hand in Southern Ontario. When cars were lined up like 20 deep at a stop sign or just really slow traffic, some drivers would open their passenger door to block cyclists from moving past them.
I know it's a vocal minority thing, but I don't understand why some people are so against bike lanes. Even if you never intend to use one, better bike lanes = more cyclists = less traffic on the road. The money invested indirectly helps people that still want to drive their vehicle.
We do bike lanes dumb. Europe separates all the squishy people, bicyclists or pedestrians, from the unyielding 2-ton war wagons on the roadway. We typically put the bikes right on the side, separated by 3 inches of air, right where Billy-bob wanted to turn in.
Hey. I'm into organ donation as much as the next guy, but our setup seems to force the issue a bit much and a bit often. Targeting healthy bike riders for sudden Dodge-Ram death is a little on the nose. So to speak.
