Posting for posterity's sake. Not thrilled with the track, but I'll sit with it for while and see if I come around. Anyone got takes?
I love this track. Saw them play it live in August and that was my first time hearing it. Happy to have seen it on streaming last week so I could give it a couple more listens.
I'm not overly thrilled with the new track either. It's alright, I guess. Hoping the rest of the album will be better.
It reminds me a little bit of what they tried to do with Year of the Black Rainbow, i.e. tap into the heavier side of metal, which was also a sound I didn't feel like meshed with their style all that well. This track seems a little more hardcore punk than metal, which makes sense when I think about some of the stuff on their earliest records, but it still doesn't jive with me. Could work in the context of an album though.
