FAQ: Haircut Practice is an homage to the Peanuts comic strips, but with original artwork and jokes by Adam Koford.
Pretty sure it is wrong, though - most of the citizens died in their sleep of suffocation due to volcanic gas, it's why Pompeii is so valuable as an archeological site, it's almost perfectly preserved.
Apprently many of those were actually trapped inside their houses and just hold on, until they passed out from the gas.
So they are not hugging because asleep but hugged because knowing they were dying.
