‘Twisters’ Whirling To Great $72M Opening, ‘Despicable Me 4’ Dropping 51% to $21.5M, ‘Inside Out 2’ Seeing $11.1M (-44%), ‘Longlegs’ Seeing $10.2M (-54%) – Friday Midday Update
After strong preview numbers, Twisters is expected to open to $72 million at 4,151 theaters after a massive first day at the box office.
Twisters was surprisingly good and might even pick up steam from good word-of-mouth.
As a big fan of the original, Twisters was an excellent spiritual sequel to the original. Apart from the weather situation/name, I don't think there was anything else to connect the two films. Although my wife was hoping the Daisy's mum was going to be Helen Hunt.
It's such a non-offensive, wonderful piece of entertainment, and they almost mention climate change but stop a few breaths short. :-)
