12 0 ReplyK'bin sounds like a Klingon name.

I say kay-bin, because it kind of looks like it should sound like that, imo.
K'bin feels like I'm just trying to make the word as short as possible.
Cabin or Ki-bin both feel like I'm adding new letters just because. To me, it would be like calling reddit "reddita" or "reedit".
8 0 ReplyKay-bin seems like the only correct way. Cabin or K'bin just feels wrong for no particular reason. The name honestly just makes me think of KDE.
7 0 ReplySame, k-anything has just been beaten into my brain as "oh a KDE app!"
3 0 Reply"Cabin" with a strong emphasis on the first syllable seems hillarious though.

The K has got to be a silent one. This place is 'bin!
6 0 ReplyNo, the leading forward slash is silent.

Kay-bin. Mostly because when I first saw the name I assumed it was a KDE package.
6 0 ReplyI pronounce it "kibin"🙃
5 0 ReplyNon-native speaker here. I get kay-bin, but how are you supposed to say k'bin?
5 0 ReplyKuh-bin, with the first syllable short and emphasis on the second.

4 0 ReplyIn spanish you are likely to default to k'bin (cabin).
Letter K pronunciation varies across the globe, so I think everyone will have variations of it.4 0 ReplyWhen I refer to the threadiverse in general (including “I saw a post on on…”) I just say lemmy. I actually really dislike the name “kbin”.
No sense in explaining it tho, cuz if you don’t get it, you won’t get it.
4 0 ReplyInteresting. For some reason kbin sounds better than lemmy to me, but don't super love either.
15 0 ReplyBoth are still better than “beehaw”

I say kay-bin, but for a third option: cabin
3 0 Reply3 0 ReplyWhat about "quou-been"?
3 0 ReplyI pronounce it, 'Freedom'.
2 0 ReplyKay-bin.
It reminds me of the property manager at my first apartment, back in 1990. She spelled her name "K'ren", and I assumed it was pronounced either Karen, or kuh-Ren. Nope. It was "KAAAAYYY-WRREE-NNN", three syllables in her very southern accent. The stress was on both of the first two syllables. 😂️
2 0 Replykevin like in "Kevin Bacon"
2 0 ReplyNative English speakers rarely realize how similar B and V sounds are virtually everywhere else in the world.
6 0 ReplyIn Spanish they are not similar, but both letters represent the same sound, literally.

I switch between kay-bin and kebin (like Kevin with a b).
