Why Meta and Snap are spending billions on AR glasses
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel are betting big that augmented-reality glasses will replace the smartphone.

If it were up to me, I'd regulate these into high hell.
- Mandatory camera covers
- Mandatory really obvious recording lights, recording sounds
- Auto-removing anyone from the camera feed that hasn't explicitly agreed to appear on your camera. And replacing them with a black box.
- Geofencing to disable the camera near any place that hasn't explicitly opted-in, as well as removing the place from a recording at any distance.
All as tamper proof hardware features. And make it a felony to modify them to remove these safeguards.
Too hard to implement? Good

10 0 ReplyYup, I always wonder why phones don't have camera covers built in, like modern laptops do. Rethorically speaking.. I know why they don't.
You could probably build a live mm resolution 3D map of every large city with all those smartphone cameras.

They can most definitely implement this with modest effort.
But they will be crying crocodile tears about "extreme technical challenges comparable to requiring us to develop commercial nuclear fusion" and "onerous regulations".
