What's the Best Strategy for Michigan Primary Vote?
Not sure what the move is here in Michigan in a couple days. Bernie Sanders is my dream candidate. But not an option obviously, so what is the best use of my vote in terms of Game Theory here? Do I vote someone other than Trump on the Republican side of the ticket to make his efforts more difficult? Or vote Uncommitted or another Democrat to communicate my want for a younger / further left leaning president? Or do I just get in line and vote Biden. Someone who I think has done a good job, but not gone far enough. I want someone younger that can connect with my issues, and do even more for the working / middle class. Someone that is younger that will understand younger issues like internet privacy and data protection.
I'd say vote for Biden. Trump's people are desperate to play off that Biden isn't popular. 2024 needs to be a massive Blue steamroller crushing not just Trump, but all his sycophants in the GOP. Anything that looks like people edging away from Biden is a win for Trump.
Do I 100% support Biden? No. Do I truly hate Trump and want to watch the GOP get flushed away? Yes.
Hmm I see your point, but don't feel good about it. I'm going to give Biden my vote come November in the general (assuming he's still alive by then) because ya, I wanna see the orange pubs steamrolled too. But god dammit if I'm not tired voting for people that I don't feel represent me. I'm tired of just voting against someone and not for someone.
I honestly don't think Biden losing in a bunch of primaries would even matter, because come election day people are going to do the same thing they did in 2020 and vote against Trump but not for Biden. Trump being loud and shitty is what will drive people to turn out in November, from both sides. We need a hard left candidate that has been a reality TV star because aparently that's what we've become.
The GOP has declared war on us, and it's past time people realized it.
In a sane country, Trump would have been toast after he said he 'liked soldiers who didn't get captured.' This isn't the time for half measures and worrying about some pie in the sky Left candidate who will ride in at the last second.
Oh I completely agree with you. I don't expect a Left candidate to pop up and take the nomination at all. But I think the more votes candidates like that get, the more viability they have in the future. The more future donations they'll be able to pull in, etc.
You can always vote uncommitted in the primary. That way you'll express your distaste for Biden and will still be able to vote for him in November. My other choice as a michigander myself would be to write in Rashida Tlaib, who technically isnt eligible but I think shows many of the ways I find Biden deficient.
