As a major fan of the series, somehow I always end up forgetting about Andromeda.
I mean, it’s probably for the best. Only just completed the Legendary Edition like 2 weeks ago so I’ve been meaning to find out if Andromeda is as atrocious as everyone claims it is.
I’ve played the ME trilogy many times. And, I’ve bought it on 360 disc, then 360 digital, then 360-era for PC, then Legendary Edition for Xbox, then Legendary Edition for PC. I have ME:LE for PS5 as well, but that came with my games for month, so I don’t count that as a full purchase. 🙃
That said, I got Andromeda for about $7 and never finished it. I played the multiplayer for a bit because the combat is fun, but that scene fizzled out and I don’t think I’ve touched the game in about 3-4 years.
Andromeda isn’t a “bad” game overall. It’s a bad Mass Effect game. If it were released on its own without the ME tag, it probably would be considered a decent 6/10 game; a little lackluster on the story and characters, but fun combat. The problem, however, is that it’s set within the ME universe, and ME is entirely about its story and characters. The combat is not why people play Mass Effect.
I think if you go into Andromeda with an understanding that is not “really” Mass Effect, you should be able to get some enjoyment out of it. Just don’t start the game thinking that Andromeda is a continuation of Mass Effect. It’s not; from content to tone, Andromeda is entirely different.
