How to report a spammer
This user's spam has been showing up all over the "hot" list on the front page:
I blocked them easily enough, but is there any way to report them to the instance admins?

Is there any way to edit the front page of kbin to only show certain magazines ?
Per my question in the title.

[Solved] Comments aren't showing up for me on my threads if I'm logged in--but they're there when I log out. 0.o
For some strange reason, I'm having an issue seeing comments on my own threads. I get notifications indicating that I got a comment, but when I go to view it, it says "no comments."
If I copy the post link, logout, then navigate to the thread, I can then see the comments under the thread.
I have no idea why this would be the case. Is anyone else having this issue?

How do I remove the cover from my profile? I cannot see the option to do so.

How do microblogs actually work?
I have never used twitter and am not on mastodon. I'm subscribed to a few magazines that have microblog posts, though, and I've noticed that 1) all of said posts have hashtags, 2) most of them are coming from mastodon, and 3) I'm starting to get the sense that from the mastodon side they're not actually associated with the kbin magazine.
If I, a kbin user, make a microblog post, is it actually associated with the magazine I posted it to or is it just linked to it via hashtags? Would I have to add the hashtag myself to actually post to the magazine? If microblogs are subscriptions to hashtags rather than to magazines, is it possible to subscribe to a hashtag without a corresponding magazine?

Does anyone else have issues with page 9?
I can't seem to get anything except a 404 whenever I hit page 9 when browsing (kbin.social/?p=9). All other pages seem fine.

Is there a guide for kbin anywhere?
I found the FAQ but it doesn't really explain much. I'm looking for a very basic guide here, like what are badges and what are boosts etc.?
Also I see that I can view a list of all the magazines for this instance, but is there a way I can view the magazines for other instances? For example I see a lot of posts from lemmy.world showing up on my homepage but outside of clicking into those posts I don't know how to see what magazines lemmy.world offers.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

How do I modify my profile?
Specifically how can I upload a profile picture? I'm probably missing something obvious, but I just can't find it. I'm on firefox on windows.

How to see list of things I've blocked, and can I block with wildcards?
For example, I'm not interested in memes, so whenever i see a community (? not sure qhat the equivalent of sub-reddit is called on kbin), such as https://kbin.social/m/[email protected], I block it.
How do I see the list of the ones that I have blocked?
One reason for wanting to see this is that I seem to have to block a community called "Memes" almost every day - I assume these are on different instances. Is there a way to block any community called Memes (or perhaps even all ones with "memes" in the name)?

A way to claim a magazine?
I'm 100% it was asked before, I just couldn't find a post, but is there a way to claim ownership over a magazine who's owner is inactive(3+ weeks)? There's a community on lemmy.ml for that !community\_requests , is there something similar on kbin?

Issue with "upvoting" too many comments in a remote thread?
I came across this thread (https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/241964/Reporting-user-for-harassment#comments) in my feed, and after upvoting a couple of comments, I kept getting an error when I tried to upvote Op's comment (which, perhaps ironically, is a user from kbin). In troubleshooting, I found that:
-
Refreshing did not solve the issue
-
I could go to the user page for the kbin user in question, and successfully upvote the comment from the default view (overview page) there.
If it matters, I'm on Firefox mobile for Android 13. Uncertain if this is because of the count of upvoted comments in a single thread, or some interaction between kbin.social user upvoting another kbin.social user in a remote thread.

For some reason, I’m not seeing the ability to add profile information on my Kbin profile. When I go to my profile, it seems to be empty. Am I just missing the edit button? I have wandered through the settings pretty extensively and just can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Keep getting error 404 when opening a remote lemmy community
I'm trying to subscribe to this lemmy community: https://lemmy.nix-community.org/c/nix But when I try to open on kbin (https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]) I get error 404. Why? Are there any fixes/workarounds?

Two questions about / issues with Kbin UI regarding expanding and collapsing comments.
There's two very annoying user interface elements that prevent me from getting comfortable with KBin. I'm not sure if these are settings, or bugs on my browser, or what.
One: Every top-level comment in every thread is showing an expand button that hides a lot of the text. So it's not really possible to read a lot of comments without going through an entire post and selecting this button on every comment. I understand this is useful for very long comments but it's hiding comments that are only one line of text. Screenshot linked below because the image attachment element disappears when I stop hovering over it.
Two: On Reddit and Lemmy, there's a button in the interface to collapse a thread and its replies. I'm not seeing that in Kbin.

how do i tag / link to a magazine properly?
hello,
i do use
> > > @ magazine @ kbin.social (does work), > while @m/magazine | m/magazine doesn't work. > >
but if a user with this @ exist in the fediverse, it does try to link to the user instead of the magazine?
here an example: @lain
another way would to be simply [link] but isn't there a easier way?
is there a post/site where things like this are clarified? didn't found one yet.
:)

What does the “favorites” filter do?
Can I add favorites? Is it by my interactions with the magazines? Thanks for the help!

How do I subscribe to a non-Kbin community?
I'm trying to find the main Lemmy.world showerthoughts sub (15k subscribers) but only finding a far smaller one (300 subscribers).
Edit: Apparently they're the same community.

Is there a way to set a Default sort for Threads or Comments?
Currently it seems like the default sort for Threads is "Top". The sort options are: Top / Hot / Newest / Active / Commented, which can be selected once you view a thread. It would be a handy feature to set a Default sort option for Threads and/or Comments (for example, Newest).

How do I delete my account?
I’ve been trying to delete my current kbin account because I don’t wanna use it. I realised that I actually don’t need it and want to stick to using my Mastodon account for everything, but it seems like I can’t just have it be deleted? I tried to request deletion, but I neither got an email as a confirmation that anything is being processed, nor has my account been deleted and it’s been days since the request and I’ve tried requesting it multiple times since then.
From my understanding of the GDPR, this seems to be a direct violation of my right to erasure, however, I’m gonna be gentle and blame the current circumstances on the alpha state of the software (even though this shouldn’t have been an afterthought).
Does anyone know how I could get this settled? Thanks 😊

Why is my kbin in polish when im not from there or have selected any language.
Why is my kbin in polish when im not from there or have selected any language. How do I change this. Really dumb that the website assumes im polish rather than have a change language option do that.

How does favourites work?
It is something I have not been able to figure out from U/I.
What I am looking for is a way to have two subscribed list. One containing high traffic magazines, like pics and meme related stuff and another to maintain a list of niche interests where traffic is low, but my interest is high.
The favourites function looked like may do that if I can figure out how to curate it.
(Edit spelling)

How do I subscribe to a whole instance?
My account is on kbin.social, but I'd like to be subscribed to every communit on aussie.zone. Rather than adding every community individually, can I subscribe to the whole instance on my kbin.social account? Like, self-federate to it?

Search function in a magazine?
Hi, just started using kbin. Is there a way to search for threads (posts) within a magazine (subr\*ddit)?

kbin logging itself out all the time
I am always being logged out of kbin on desktop and mobile PWA.
On desktop, using firefox, if I stop using the site for 10-20 minutes, even if the active tab is open with it, I am logged out. Is this normal expected behavior or might I have some setting or addon which is creating this?
I have given kbin an exception to the rule of purging cookies between sessions in case somehow that was the issue. No change.
Never encountered this before.
Anyone else with same issue? Or no?

Is there a subscription only view?
I want to have a main view that is exclusively magazines/lemmy communities I'm subscribed to. Is this possible? I've been fumbling around the UI and haven't been able to discover it yet if it does exist.

Question About Posting Images on Kbin
I posted a photo on kbin yesterday from my photo hosting service. I thought the image would hot link from my gallery so I wouldn't be using bandwidth from the kbin.social server. But it looks like the image gets picked up and hosted on the kbin server anyway.
Is there any way to hotlink from an outside host where the image will display in the post? If not, are there some general guidelines about image file size?

Please help with the basics of subscribing to remote communities. (Many ways to do it wrong, included)
Alright I really thought I had cracked this nut, but some of these are still eluding me. I went on a run of subscribing to a bunch of remote communities and felt like I had really mastered the fediverse in theory and in execution... then I was humbled.
I'm guessing that the remote communities I've already subscribed to went very smoothly because somebody on kbin already did the hard work of finding them and subscribing, and I was unknowingly riding on their coattails.
The small community I'm trying to join is lemmy.world/c/pennsylvania. So far I've tried:
-
Pointing my browser to kbin.social/m/[email protected]
- 404
- I assume this is because kbin is so far, unaware of this community
-
Pointing my browser to kbin.social/c/[email protected]
- I was pretty sure this wouldn't work, but I've been wrong about things I was pretty sure about, before.
-
Pointing my browser to kbin.social/c/[email protected]
- I recently learned that kbin is unintentionally picky about capitalization in some cases. When I learned this, I REALLY thought I found the answer to my problem.
-
Click the magnifying glass, search for https://lemmy.world/c/pennsylvania
-
Click the magnifying class, search for https://lemmy.world/c/Pennsylvania
-
Click the magnifying glass, search for !pennsylvania
- I really thought this would work because I thought the ! is how you tell your instance to seriously go out and get something, even if it has never heard of it before. (is that just for lemmy?)
-
Click the magnifying glass, search for !Pennsylvania
I am defeated.

Can I post to magazines on another kbin instance?
New to kbin. I’m trying to wrap my head around how federation works. If a community develops on a different server/instance than where I created my account, can I create threads and reply to others? Or just view? I read everywhere that federation allows following across different instances, but viewing content is different than participating in a community. If my account is on kbin.social can I create a thread or reply in a thread for a magazine that is in fedia.io?
