Would anyone have any issue with locking this community, keeping all the posts and comments up, and redirecting to [email protected] ?
Follow up from https://lemm.ee/post/57999596 and https://lemm.ee/post/58201093 and
See https://lemmy.world/c/football for an example of what we would like to do.
The moderation team would stay the same. We’ll keep a pinned post here to say we are moving.
We’ll promote it on [email protected] and [email protected]
Impact for people here would be minimal. We can even ping regular posters and commenters like https://lemmy.world/post/24312613
We can always revisit later if needed.
You can vote below about this decision. We’ll see what the decision is in 24h hours.
Vote extended to Monday evening US time. We can then discuss what we want to do then.
What to do with this community?
Hello everyone,
As the previous mod went missing, I got mod rights on this community. For full transparency, see the history between this mod and I: https://lemm.ee/post/44845348
So,as you probably know, the "movies and TV" space is quite busy on Lemmy. At the moment, there is, by order of active weekly users, first one being the most active
For movies:
- [email protected]
- [email protected]
- [email protected] (the one we're in)
- [email protected], a new one, see this thread: https://feddit.org/post/8934906?scrollToComments=true, trigger was power tripping from LW mods
https://lemmyverse.net/communities?query=movies&order=active
For TV shows:
- [email protected]
- [email protected] (created recently: https://lemm.ee/post/57792851)
- [email protected]
- [email protected] (seems abandoned)
https://lemmyverse.net/communities?query=television&order=active
As you can see, it's quite messy, with a few recent communities. You see people from time to time mentioning how the first "multi-community" they create on apps like Voyager is one to get all the movies communities in one feed.
There are a few options we could consider here
Option 1. Lock it down and redirect to other movies and TV communities.
People were already not posting a lot lately, most of the activity happening on the other communities listed above. There would still be plenty of options (at least two on each topic).
A script can be used to ping everyone who posted and commented recently to make sure that people follow through. Example: https://lemmy.world/post/24312613
Option 2. Keep it open
Leave it open, and accept that people may not find the more active communities, and post here from time to time.
Other options - your suggestions
Feel free to provide your suggestions in the comments.
As a note, I'm not offering a "give a new mod team", as any person wanting to volunteer as a mod would we welcome on [email protected] (application post in the sidebar)
1000 subscribers!
Hello everyone,
Just a small message to celebrate the growth of this community. Thank you everyone for being here!
How should we handle dedicated movie discussions?
Hello everyone,
Follow up from a thread I opened a month ago (https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/6090857)
The main issue I see with creating Movie Discussion threads in this community is that there is no way to link them in a megathread, as post links depend on your instance, and there is no way to have a link that would work for everyone (except relying on add-ons such as Instance Helper, but that's not idea). So for people to see them, you either need to have them pinned, cluttering the community, or you need to rely on people on finding them (e.g. adding a shortcut in the sidebar with a precreated search, however I don't know if that would work on mobile clients, and visibility wouldn't probably be the best).
One way to handle this would be to use another community dedicated to movie discussions threads, were only that type of content would be allowed.
There is currently [email protected] that we do not currently use but that could fit that need.
What do you guys think?
We are 300!
It might seem small, but as we started this one from scratch, it's a first milestone!
Thank you everyone for participating here!
Should we do movie discussion threads?
Just a simple question. I know those were quite popular, but we don't have them now, so let's discuss.
Also, who should be in charge of creating them? Is there a way to create them automatically somehow? That would be nice
