Album Club #5 - D.O.A. - Hardcore 81 (1981) -

It’s time for album club #5! I'm a few days late with this one, and have also decided to switch the format to monthly instead of every 2 weeks. If we start getting more participation I might look at increasing the frequency again.

This week I went with a Canadian classic. D.O.A.'s Hardcore 81. The album that lent it's name to a genre. Released in 1981, this was D.O.A.'s second album. Formed in 1978, by this point in their career the band had already opened for the Clash, and toured extensively around California with some of the other founders of hardcore punk. They would soon lose a drummer to Black Flag, and go through some lineup changes of their own. In the middle of all of that, they released what is likely their best album, Hardcore 81.

This post will stay pinned for a month, in order for anyone interested to leave their thoughts on the album. December 31st will see the launch of Album Club #6.

Album Club #4 - Death Pill - Death Pill (2023) -

Buy it on Bandcamp.

It’s time for album club #4! I went with something new this week, the debut album of Ukraine's Death Pill. This album was released in February 2023. "From the classic punk of Black Flag, The Distillers and Circle Jerks, to modern outfits like Axe Rash and the thrash metal of Nervosa and Exodus, there’s a nod to all of this in Death Pill’s visceral sound. Full on and fully formed on their self-titled debut album."

This post will stay pinned for 3 weeks, in order for anyone interested to leave their thoughts on the album. December 3rd will see the launch of Album Club #5.

Album Club #3 - Texas Terri and The Stiff Ones - Eat Shit (1997) -

!

It’s time for album club #3! I pulled this one from one of the "What Were You Listening To Last Week?" threads. Texas Terri & The Stiff Ones' only album, Eat Shit, came out in 1997, one year before our previous album club pick, Americana. The two couldn't be more different. Comparisons to Wendy O. Williams are obvious. This is pure, gritty, rock & roll. The album also features a couple of covers of bands such as The Dicks, and the Dictators.

This post will stay pinned for 2 weeks, in order for anyone interested to leave their thoughts on the album. November 12th will see the launch of Album Club #4.

It's time for album club #2, and I've pulled another suggestion from the favourite album poll. The Offspring's 5th studio album was released in 1998, and was the bands 2nd highest selling album, after their breakout hit Smash.

This post will stay pinned for 2 weeks, in order for anyone interested to leave their thoughts on the album. October 20 will see the launch of Album Club #3.

Favourite Album Poll + Intro to

Thought I'd mix it up a little this weekend, starting off with a favourite punk album of all time poll. Post your vote in the comments below (bonus points if you also link to a bandcamp or youtube copy so everyone can give a listen). I won't count upvoting already posted albums, since people might just be agreeing that that is a good album, but they might have a separate favourite.

One comment = one vote.

We also had a great suggestions from @[email protected] over in the intro post, so this best of list is going to form the basis of the first edition of Album Club. I figure I'll pick some of the less popular favourite album suggestions to kick off our first few rounds. I'm going to start it off as a bi-weekly and see how it goes, so next Sunday I'll announce the first album and give everyone two weeks to have a listen.

I'll keep this post updated with the totals as we move through the week. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see in the sub!
