I was intimidated by formula C(#f3) in #iracing due to its longer race lengths. I'm more accustomed to shorter sprints. Huge fans of SF23 sprint format.

Finally did my first few F3 races at #vir and boy they're fun.

The first race wasn't super great, but my second race was fantastic. A midsplit race, ended up with p3. Was battling most of the race so I didn't even realize the length. Huge fan now.

There is an F4 anime, so I made a livery from it in iRacing

Kinda fun to just recreate paints from images. The logos I can't find online was a pain though.

You can get it on Trading Paints for the FIA F4

My "space is limited" space combat and racing rig

cross-posted from: https://infosec.pub/post/3508656 . I made some modifications since the last rig post, thought I'd cross post here too.

> I don't have a lot of space where my desk is but wanted a combo space combat and racing rig that was fully rigid except for the seat. > > The chair sits in a wheel trough with some 3d printed wheel chalks that fit the wheels exactly so it doesn't really move much at all when braking. > > Everything is running on Linux using a lot of SDL and input device spoofing hacks to get it all recognized correctly in games. I mostly play DirtRally2.0, BeamNG, AMS2, and Overload. Trying to get into Elite Dangerous but it's not really my type of game. Maybe it will be some day though. Also play a little RBR but not all that much. > > List of gear: > > T300rs with a R383 Mod wheel - tmff2 driver. I designed a "quick" release ring so it's not a pain to take the wheel off for flight. > > Heusinkveld Ultimate+ pedals - protopedal or xboxdrv depending on the game > > TH8A shifter - heavily modified to fit in the small space I had and with a 3d printed short throw plate that I designed. It's not ideal, but works for occasional use. > > Some ebay handbrake - I use xboxdrv for this sometimes if necessary but most games can find it. I also modified it to be mounted under the plate for a bit more space on top. > > Gladiator NXT EVO Omni Throttle (Left and Right hand models) - These are a pain in most games. I use a winehid hack where I adjust the registry values HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet Enum WINEBUS VID_231D&PID_{200,201} {Service, CompatibleIds} from xinput to winehid. This works but depends on the bus the device is currently connected to. Looking for a better SDL env var alternative but haven't got it working yet. > > Acer Nitro 37.5" QHD+ 3840 x 1600 curved display > > NextLevelRacing "Wheel Stand 2.0" - I made some steel parts for it on the mill to increase rigidity, 3d printed spacers for the adjustable arms to tighten them up a bit since the stock ones are a bit sloppy, and made some extra plates for mounting the sticks and other stuff out of 10mm aluminum plate. > > VKB UCM-S drop mount brackets for the sticks. I modified these as well to fit under the aluminum plates. The left one is hinged so that it can be folded upwards to get in and out of the chair when the chair wheels are fixed in place. > > annnd... yes I know the shifter and handbrake are reversed... I like it that way.

AMS2: New racecraft.online season starts today

RCO is a matchmaking system like LFM, but for AMS2. Their new season starts today.

Changes for the new season include:

> - Many people were sad that Green Hell was only once a week and/or at a time they couldn't join, so it is now a Daily again. You can find it under the Hourlies, although it will only run once every 3 hours. We hope this will give each time zone (and shift workers) at least one feasible time slot each day, while still grouping as many players as possible together on the grid. > - In place of the Green Hell Weekly, we now have Oddball Tuesday: as the name suggests this should not be taken too seriously, it is a collection of strange requests we sometimes get and fun stuff we see online and like to try for ourselfes. This season there is Copa Truck on a normal track and a small oval, RX cars on a road course, there are kart races on a kart track and on an Grade 1 F1 track (barely...). And we'll start off with the fan-favorite Copa Classic B's on arguably the best fictional kart track in the world > - Buskerud Long. It's a blast, but mind your Safety Rating πŸ˜… > - Premier Cup will run the F-USA 2023's again > - We are working on giving Oval and Endurance series manual rolling starts to make them feel more realistic and to try to stamp out some quirks in the automatic starting procedure. Let us know if works and if it is better this way.

If you're interested, check racecraft.online or their Discord.

I'm just a driver myself, not affiliated with RCO, but I thought I let people know by posting this here.

Don't sleep on LFE, it brings so much immersion to simracing

blog.elegast.me Enhancing Your Sim Racing Experience: The Buttkicker Gamer Plus Haptic System

When it comes to the world of sim racing, enthusiasts understand that the feedback you receive from the virtual car you're maneuvering is crucial. Nearly all vehicle feedback is felt through the steering wheel. Many dedicated sim racers swear by direct-drive wheels for their impeccable precision in ...

Enhancing Your Sim Racing Experience: The Buttkicker Gamer Plus Haptic System

hey all, I've been using the Buttkicker Gamer Plus for a few weeks, and I must say it's honestly been a great addition to my sim racing setup.

!

For those who may not be familiar with it, this device allows users to physically feel sensations through vibrations. The Buttkicker Haptic System can replicate sensations like engine vibrations, tire slip, the texture of the road, and gear shifts, elevating the virtual driving experience to a whole new level of realism and engagement.

A more in-depth review, with pictures, here!

TLDR!

  • Provides feedback where it is essential (tire slip, etc)
  • Performance Boost: Improves driving skills and lap times(I find myself at a negative delta when its turned off, eventually I get back to pace)
  • Considerations: It makes noise, so depending on living situations, it is something to consider. There are cheaper DIY options, but this is a complete no thinking solution.
  • Easy Setup: Quick and straightforward installation.
  • Customization: Fine-tune settings for personal preference, you can do this via iRacing directly or with buttkicker-provided software.
  • Optimal Feedback: with the controller, you can quickly turn it up and down which is nice
  • Verdict: Highly recommended for affordable immersion in sim racing.

Review of the Next Level Racing GT-Lite Foldable Sim Racing Rig

hey all, I have seen a couple of comments discussing foldable simracing rigs. I've had the chance to get my hands on the Next Level Racing GT-Lite Foldable Simracing Rig, so I wanted to share some insights.

!

If you want to dive deeper into this, check out a more detailed review with more pictures right here!

tldr:

  • Assembly: Putting it together is a breeze, and it's versatile enough to work with various setups.

  • Adjustments: You've got some flexibility in customizing your wheel and pedal positions, but the backrest angle is set in stone.

  • Comfort: It's pretty convenient, but it does make a few comfort sacrifices in the name of portability.

  • Space Savings: If you're tight on space, this rig is a godsend. It folds up neatly for effortless storage.

  • Conclusion: Looking for a robust and portable solution to bring realism to your sim racing adventures in a cramped space? This seems like a solid solution.

Spent a lot of time here this weekend

I'm running triples 1080 @ 75hz. Outer 2 monitors are curved. They were just monitors I had around and were not bought with sim racing in mind. so the bezel is not the same across all devices, but eventually Ill get new monitors.

I can't wait for #VRheadsets to become so light it's like wearing glasses. #simracing is literally next level in #VR. Especially with the new #buttkicker But I can only wear the #oculusquest2 for so long before I'm fatigued. (I know some can wear them all day and you're lucky!) Been running #VIR all weekend with the #porsche #gt4 in #iRacing on triples. Hopped into VR and after a few laps I was already negative delta by nearly a second. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ @simracing @iracing

Working on a new livery for my iRacing squad. Team SloWmo

!

We have been running a triangle-based look for a while, and we're getting a bit tired of it, so the new look is going with more big blocks of color with triangular shapes still in the style but now more lumpy.

Our old look for comparison. !

I'm open for commissions if anyone are looking to give their team a style. I can work with AC paints as well.

We're a little sparse on Rig Posts, so here's mine!

!

!

!

!

Rig is a NLR F-GT. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far, but it's struggling to keep up. The Seat on this rig has been ripped up by my cat, so a sweatshirt and a towel have gone into service covering up the very ripped leather. I plan on replacing the seat soon, so hopefully won't have that problem for more than another year or so.

Wheelbase is a VRS DFP. It's amazing and I love it. Packs quite a punch and does really try to rip your arms off at full FFB. This is paired with a CubeControls QR (Also known as the aliexpress one) and an Ascher F64-USB.

Pedals are also the VRS Pedals. Currently I only have 2 installed, but I do have the optional 3rd clutch that isn't mounted right now. The pedal plate flexes a lot more than I'd like, even with the additional strengthening kit from NLR.

Rig is a dedicated sim PC with a 11900K, RTX 3080 and 32GB of RAM. Triple 32 inch 1440p/144hz monitors round out the setup, mounted to a Rigmetal Monitor Stand.

I also have a Polsimer F74 that is no longer in use and a NLR GT Rim for if I need a round rim.

I'm happy to answer any querstions!

@simracing @iracing Does anyone mainly play iRacing but frequent Assetto Corsa? Do you notice a re-learning curve when you go back to iRacing? Do you perform more poorly in iRacing after racing in AC? Not like im top tier that it would really matter, but im curious how different others feel ac/iRacing are to be playing both comparatively.

Thrustmaster T-GT II vs Fanatec CSL Elite as a first wheel
  • Have you considered building one of the open source wheel projects like openFFBoard (github page)?

You get direct drive power with open source software and can source a motor and parts more easily. OpenFFBoard has a custom controller and driver which you can buy but you can also make it work with dev boards and odrive/vesc if your ability to order parts is limited. The ffboard does make it easier if you can buy just that one part though https://www.elecrow.com/open-ffboard-stm32f407-usb-interface-only.html

That said, and to answer your question as best I can, I used a T300rs for a while and it was fine, but both thrustmaster and fanatec suffered (and still do a bit) from some reliability issues. But no belt drive wheel is ever going to compare to a direct drive wheel.

  • Heusinkveld Sprints - Replace Elastomers with Springs?
  • Not sprints, but I did something similar with my ultimate+ set. I didn't replace all of them, only 1, and the other spring is there in the original set. This produces a feel more like what is in my real street car with a brake booster where there is some pedal travel and then sudden increase in resistance.

Not quite what you're asking about but figured it might be helpful.

  • Hot Lap Challenge | Round 5
  • Well, I produced a time.... 2:22.034 2:19.494 2:18.101 2:14.946

First time around a track with the OpenFFBoard wheel (finally got the paddles working, which is why I didn't post earlier).

  • obligatory rig pic?
  • No worries! So I followed, roughly, this guide and it works pretty much flawlessly for me. With the exception of rain, (I'm a patron on x4fab so I tried it, fought with it a lot, and couldn't get it working).

That guide is aimed at the steam deck so I just skipped all the steam deck specific stuff. Pretty much install GE-Proton7-55 like you normally would for any other steam desktop game. Then go through the install process like they suggest, letting it crash, setting the launch options, etc.

The one caveat I suppose I should mention is that I use sway (wayland) and have to run everything in gamescope to make it play nice with tiling and wayland in general. This works mostly fine, except that the content manager window can be resized, and resizing windows in gamescope makes them fill the screen at whatever size they currently are. So if you mess up you might end up with a tiny tiny window and need to launch it outside of gamescope to get it back to a reasonable size. Also the button tool tips are a little flickery, but I just deal with it.

Give it a try! I'm curious to hear if you run into any issues, and let me know if you have any questions.

  • First test of my openffboard build with power
  • Thanks! Here are prices/links:

    40USD - OpenFFBoard

~50USD - Baldor BSM90N-1150AFP, I managed to get an "untested" one on ebay

    150USD - ODrive S1

~50USD - I'm working on fabricating a massively overbuilt mount for which the steel plate (including cut fees to sheer the pieces into manageable rectangles, and a fair amount of extra material) was 50ish. Then "wings" will be eventually cut off so it's a little smaller footprint, I just didn't feel like cutting more plate that day:

So a total of ~300USD for parts and materials if I account for some odds and ends like connectors, consumables, and wire and such that I keep on hand.

I would say this isn't that much less expensive than some of the lower end DD wheelbases. In fact some of them are a lot cheaper if you buy a bundle with wheels and pedals, where as I'm using some things I already have for that. I did have the opportunity to purchase a 9.5Nm motor for the same price but missed it by a day. I'm keeping any eye out for another deal on something slightly more powerful but it'll probably be a while before I find one.

For me the drive (pun intended =] ) for building this was Linux support. OpenFFBoard uses standard HID force feedback supported in both windows and Linux. It does not require drivers and the configuration software is python+qt and runs on anything. Most other DD wheels either don't work at all in Linux or require community maintained reverse-engineered kernel modules like hid-tmff2 (what I currently use with my t300) or hid-fanatecff which has some missing effect support.

EDIT: Sorry for all the edits, I kept forgetting links.

  • Flat triple monitor or curved triple monitor?
  • Here's my current setup:

One 32" curved in the middle and two 27" flats to the right and left. And I gotta say that I mostly used the flats because I had one lying around and the other was cheap. Two more curved screens would probably be nicer with my current setup, since the outer edges are quite a bit away from my eyes

  • Hradek 1 Hyundai i20 N Rally2
  • Thanks for the update!

After I sent this I did get it working pretty consistently however there's a DXVK bug in the version of DXVK supplied with proton 6.3-8 and older. Using a newer proton (or wine) results in broken FFB.

So at this moment there seems to be no way to have trees and FFB at the same time, but otherwise it works well. I did try creating my own FFB fixes based on those published by RSF but that's a fix for RSF it self, not related to wine, so it obviously didn't work:

    ] > cat t300rs.reg
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_044F&PID_B66E]
    "OEMData"=hex:43,00,88,01,fe,00,00,00
    "OEMName"="Thrustmaster T300RS Racing wheel"

Things seem to work best with the proton-6.1-GE-2 launcher, dxvk and VKD3D disabled in the bottles settings, and Virtual Desktop (not gamescope) configured in advanced display settings. The launcher and game start fine every time like this, but if you race for longer than 1min and 58 seconds all the trees vanish if your map has dynamic textures. Some maps don't and those remain fine but they don't look as good in general.

  • Hradek 1 Hyundai i20 N Rally2
  • Gotta practice those hairpins =] . Looks like a lot of fun!

A previous post says you're doing some gaming on Ubuntu, did you mange to get RBR working there too? I tried for a short time with bottles but didn't put much effort into it. I'm curious what your approach was.

EDIT: I tried this again and I remember the issue I had now. I use the tmff2 Thrustmaster dkms driver. The game works fine in bottles, and running control from the wine console and using the force feedback test dialog works fine, I can get all the built in effects to work. However in the game FFB does not work nor do the in game tests. I've tried some of the RSF compatibility registry hacks but they don't seem to do anything. That's not surprising though since I think they are intended to match specific VID:PID device strings.

I'd really love to get this game working, I see so many cool videos and there's so much variety with all the mods. Maybe this will be the final push to build an OpenFFBoard wheel or something =].

  • Made a team livery for the Porsche 963 with the Petit LeMans in mind.
  • Thanks. I use photoshop and template files provided by iRacing. The graphics were made with various selection tools, custom brushes, layer effects, generated patterns and an understanding of how to use the specmap features in the game.

I tend to start with creating graphic design elements like the blocks of color and styling separately from the car, then I take those elements and apply them to the car, taking into account the shapes of the car and how complex the template is. Then I apply logos and other details. Lastly I adapt those graphics to the specmap to make things shiny or metallic.

  • @Elegast123 @BuddyTheBeefalo of course it will. It runs apps. It runs iOS. Theres already iOS apps that does streaming SteamVR to an iPhone (for use with Cardboard or similar).

I don't think it's a good option due to the price, but it's going to be capable of doing it, especially now that it seems like the iVRy dev's attempts at PSVR2 for PC seem like a dead end due to hardware DRM, so they'll need to find a new project to build.

  • Hot Lap Challenge | Round 4
  • Well you'll probably really enjoy This Video haha!

The MGU-H mode was on the "motor" so it doesn't count for this challenge but still that's the absolute most I can get out of the car!

I'm right on the edge of my ability through a lot of this lap, proper sweaty attempt.

I'll run in the correct mode for an official lap if I end up needing to, no worries there. At most the advantage was a few tenths as ERS deployment per lap is limited.

Moar people need to join up and give it a go!
