Activision-Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick has spilled the beans about the graphical fidelity of the next Nintendo console during the Activision-Blizzard deal FTC hearing. Speaking to the court about Call…
To be fair, past a certain point, they won't need to make their consoles more powerful.
I think we're hitting a plateau with consoles in general, where games are taking longer and costing far more to create, but gen 8 games still look pretty damn good, even compared to gen 9. If Nintendo can just eventually get their games run their games at 60 frames at 1440p, and as long as their art style remains strong, I have zero complaints. Lacking hardware has always been the biggest gripe with Nintendo.
Honestly I don't think Nintendo is even a part of the console wars anymore. Almost all the games on the Switch that are actually good and worthwhile are Nintendo exclusive, and the people that want to play them will always buy the console to play it. Most gamers will have a console/PC for their more intensive games in addition to a Nintendo system for all that they can offer on their own
Yeah, I think Nintendo is just stepping away from that part of the competition. I don't even see them as a direct competitor to them anymore, they have their audience, and a lot of people will own a console/PC, and a Nintendo device instead of picking only one.
If their next system continues to be a portable console I don't see any point in them trying to keep up in power. It would be nice if it was at least powerful enough to play basic games from other developers without frame-rate issues though. It feels like only Nintendo themselves can get decent visuals that run well on the switch now.
