Guides are in the works! Should be done by or tommorow. EDIT: Added more info, be sure to add your input! And will probably not be done today...
The first two guides themes' are:
✅ "So you want to get into (pragmatic) Free Software extremism?"
It's finished! I hope it's good enough... You can find it here! However, there is an issue I'm trying to resolve with not being able to post it. I'm getting an invalid_body_field error, soooo you can access it through NotABug for now.
⏸️ "So you want to get into Linux?"
Didn't even start to work on it... However, there is a plan!
The guide will introduce a singular Debian based distribution for several reasons. Simplicity, support, stability.
Since Debian is one of the best supported Linux distributions it will be, or any other Debian based distribution, to begin explaining what Linux is, it's ecosystems and how to navigate them. There will also be a small introduction to the terminal, why it's useful and why you don't need to be a master at it nor remember everything to use it for what you need! It will be introduced along with the concept of a package manager. Only one distribution will be introduced as to not overwhelm anyone on what they should choose, or what is the best choice (which doesn't exist).
They will be posted when both are finished! Stay tuned! I'm posting the first to check for problems. There are problems 💀, I've asked @[email protected] . for help so we'll see how it goes
If you have any suggestions please leave them here! Don't DM me! Let the whole community take part!
I use Linux mint, I've also used regular ubuntu in the past but it seems quite frustrating to get normal stuff to work that windows does easily. is debian mildly easier to use?
getting any games/controllers to work, DAW's like ableton or other audio editing software, even installing stuff correctly I still have no idea if I'm doing stuff right. I had to reinstall it a few times because I didn't give the distro enough space and it got stuck in a os boot loop. i now just use it as basically a youtube/streaming computer connected to my dumb tv via hdmi. i guess i would consider myself intermediate when it comes to computer stuff and I find even getting the right info confusing and daunting as I've never talked anyone irl about it, completely self taught in this field.
If you're loking for a DAW on linux i can recommend Ardour.
Unfortunately some hardware sellers (like canon, ugh) have no linux support. So now whenever I buy something new I research their support before I buy any products.
I was an intermediate user for a long time, but what helped me get more into it was following the archlinux installation guide. Really showed me how the system is build "under the hood". Like what the difference between a compositor and a window manager is and stuff like that.
Next, if I find the time, I plan to go the gentoo/lfs route, wich is basically building the car from it's parts.
