Continue music playback from Mac to iPhone

Pretty much as the title says, just wondered if it was possible for me to stop listening to a playlist on my Mac and seamlessly pick it up on my iPhone, rather than starting the playlist again?

  • Unfortunately there isn’t, at least not with Apple Music. It seems a really obvious continuity feature to add but Apple have yet to do this. It’s a shame as I regularly switch between Mac iPad and iPhone while listening to music and having to find where I left off each time is a bit annoying.

Submit feedback to Apple, maybe they will take action eventually.

    • Yeah I feel you, it's a tad frustrating. But a first world problem I guess. I just thought it was an obvious continuity feature to have as part of the Apple ecosystem.

  • I have wished this for years now, the most seamless experience I’ve gotten from Apple Music is picking where to play music from my Apple Watch, but this is not the same as what you’re saying, it does not transition your currently playing song to other devices, just lets you control playback on other devices.

    • That’s a shame. Seems like it’d be reasonably straightforward to implement on iOS 17 given the new stuff they’re doing with AirDrop.

I know Spotify has had this for a while and is probably one of the items highest on peoples’ wishlists. Maybe one day.

  • What I do is just AirPlay to other devices (usually the Linux PC which is connected to my audio setup) from the iPhone. Not perfect of course, but I don't mind. This would be nice to have though, and if they do this I hope they can implement it better than Spotify's janky Connect.
