I was wondering. With forestry on the horizon and having read all the articles about it, how do you guys currently feel about it?
I am personally quite excited for the “events” that can happen again, making the skill more than just a afk skill. I specifically remember back when we had the evil tree spirit and such I’d get really excited even though it wasn’t that intense or complex. To me it provided a nice break of pace while training the skill.
Now that it's been out for a bit: I like the events, but encouraging player interaction with the +10 boost is my favorite part of forestry. I used to play Guild Wars 2, and that game rolled loot/xp drops separately for different players. This made it so having more players around would never be detrimental. Meanwhile, in OSRS, it's often required or at least beneficial to hop worlds for skilling/pvm tasks so you can be alone, which feels out of place for an otherwise very social MMO. The boost and changes to tree despawning address that for wc really well, and I've probably seen more in public chat the last couple days than I've seen for the last few months (excluding wintertodt and ge). I'm hoping more content (e.x. salvaging from the sailing blogpost) follows the same route of having more people around being helpful, or at least not actively hurting your xp rates.
tl;dr I'm just happy that forestry encourages being social
I've played it a bit before work. It keeps traditional WC about the same (apart from redwoods) while offering more for people who like to pay attention to the game. It's all beneficial without any detriments, apart from maybe the timing on redwoods.
I enjoyed it, found a group to wc together and it was nice, sapling event gives great teamwork, too bad xp drop has a player limit, if you join forestry worlds u will get the reward 1/10 times, its a lot slower with a group of 10.
Already got the log basket and the brace and combined them with the forester kit in to a single backpack
I’ve been loving it so far but I’m super new to OSRS. The amount of XP received from the root cutting event is insane. Plus I enjoy that it feels more communal.
I like it quite a lot. Not even close to maxing and already have high enough WC for elite diary so really didn't have much of a reason to do it right now. Ended up doing it most the day and just vibing with people at the Xeric's glade magic trees.
The events I can take or leave, especially on mobile. But I had so much fun woodcutting and talking at prif teaks on release day because of the new tree timers, that's the MVP imo.
It's refreshing! I really enjoy the social aspect and getting to ignore the instinct to "hop off" what would've been someone else's tree. I was almost 89wc at release, and I'm halfway to 90 without realizing it! :)
Given the alternatives have been teaks, sullis, and or just afk chopping in the WC guild... I'm really happy with it, bugs and all.
It's a good step forward and I hope the OSRS team gives players more incentives to group together and hang out.
