Left 4 Dead 2 lags only while shooting zombies

Yesterday I tried to run L4D2 on my linux laptop only to discover, that when I shoot a zombie, the game drops performance, shooting multiple zombies drops performance even more. I have the correct drivers for my cpu and gpu (thinkpad e14 gen 4, Ryzen 5 5625U). The game runs even better than the windows version on the same machine in the terms of FPS.

What should I do?

I know that I have to: verify game files, recache shaders, ...

I am running the newest Linux Mint.
