"Fire Coming Out of A Monkey's Head" Is a prophesy about MAGA

For the longest time I thought this song was about colonialism, industrialization etc. of developing countries. But after Trump, and after moving to central PA, its meaning has changed for me. I now think the song is about the colonization of the American soul.

The Happy Folk are living these naive idyllic lives and then the Strange Folk come (who I now think of as like advertising executives, businessmen, politicians etc.)

"In time Strangefolk found their way Into the higher reaches of the mountain.
And it was there that they found the caves of unimaginable sincerity and beauty."

When you drive through small towns in PA, their commerce has been absolutely wrecked by malls, Walmart, Amazon etc. The opioid epidemic rages. They all have posters on every light pole of the veterans that they sent to die in the Middle East. In other words, the sincerity and beauty of these towns has been mined, just like their hills have been mined for coal.

"The mountain called Monkey had spoken.
There was only fire
And then nothing."

This verse predicts MAGA 10 years before it happened. The rage that they feel cannot be reasoned with.

It's the last verse that make me think that this is what Jamie and Damon were thinking too... 10 years before it happened.

"Oh a little town in the USA
The time has come to see:

But where were you when it all came down on me?
Did you call me? no"
