1936 brick Ashburton building to be torn down for car park

"The rationale given by the council for demolishing the building is that it was too costly to refurbish and earthquake strengthen.

People always want to see these buildings saved, but someone else to pay for it.

Should not be legal

Urban car hell

I hope they're pressured into doing something decent with the carpark, like putting in trees and footpaths between the rows. Or making it multi-storey so they can stop wasting other space elsewhere. (As if)
