Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams -- who'll be a restricted free agent this summer -- had surgery on his left hand Friday that's expected to have him fully recovered for the start of NBA training camp in the fall, sources told ESPN.
Gonna be interesting to see how the Celtics handle him. I don’t think he’s worth anywhere near the $20M that was floated, but Brad kinda hasn’t been wrong yet, so we’ll see what he thinks. Whatever choice is made will have huge repercussions on the rest of the offseason for the C’s
It's funny, he was definitely worth $20M under Ime, but he's really regressed under Joe this year so it boils down to whether Brad belives it was just a part of Joe's "growing pain" as a coach, or if of Grant really doesn't fit Joe's system
I think it’s a little of all of the above. Mazzulla’s lineups were fucked all season, right until the very end. He played Grant almost every single game during the regular season for significant minutes and then started DNP’ing him in the playoffs. Similarly, we finally have Rob Williams healthy for a playoff run, and he plays him <20 MPG in the Miami series, just over 20 MPG for the whole playoffs. I posted it before on Reddit: the C’s were 7-3 when Rob played over 20 minutes, 3-7 when he didn’t. So what the fuck is Mazzulla even doing with these known assets?
Like I said, it’s going to be interesting because I feel like fans are split on Grant’s value. But whatever Brad does is going to have a big ripple effect either way
