The median age in the United States reached a record high of 38.9 in 2022, according to data released Thursday by the Census Bureau.
It’s a rapid rise. In 2000, the median age was 35, and in 1980, the median was 30.

Median salary is $45,000. If we take these two together, then people who are 39 are typically making $45,000. That’s pretty abysmal with the state of the economy right now and the rate of inflation since 2020.
The median salary pre-covid was around $42,000. In other words, the median salary grew 7% since 2019 despite most businesses having record breaking years.
