I seriously considered doing the same. Listening to Paul Sellers say it’sa lifetime tool kind of sold me on it. I’d still like to do the inlays and put a finish on it but that’s for another day. They are functional enough for the project in working on.
Finally made a set of winding sticks. Paul Sellers design. Haven’t got to the inlays yet - that will have to come later after the project at hand (Walnut floating shelves) is complete. I just wanted to make something functional for now and I’ll make it nice later.
I’m not sure what wood this is. Salvaged from pallet wood. Thinking it could be hickory? I’m not really sure. I don’t see any medullary rays like oak would have. The wood has a red or pink tinge to it with some gray streaks.
Are you primarily a hand tool woodworker? For the first fifteen years or so I avoided hand tools like the plague. Over the last five years I have been moving more towards hand tools and I find I enjoy woodworking a lot more.
Yes for the most part. I have a small bandsaw and a (powered) lathe, and a drill press. I have a small space so large power tools are not really an option and I enjoy hand tools far more anyway. Sometimes I see videos of woodworking and the machines make it look so easy, but then I think about the noise, the dust, the cost of the machines, and the likelihood of getting hurt. It’s much more relaxing to work by hand.
