With the subreddit opening today there's been plenty of questions regarding whether or not we'd be shutting down this instance.
Short answer is : "No"
Long answer is : "Noooooooooooo"
There's no reason to, and as far as things go this has mostly been ignored by the mod team at large, outside of a few of us (me, gloom, willpauer) there really hasn't been any legitimate discussion or focus given.
With that, I don't intend to close this magazine, and instead keep it open and, if anything, try to more actively work on building an alternative community here as an offshoot for those who prefer to stick to the fediverse rather than reddit going forward.
That being said, kbin is having it's growing pains and there is discussion about this versus Lemmy, I am open to any discussions or suggestions about what next steps we should consider in this community.
For those of you who have been trying to grow something here: I see you, I respect you, and I don't intend to do anything to stifle that.
Whatever reason you have for coming to this corner of the IWC, as long as you're respecting one another you're welcome here.
I think promoting m/SC on a wider basis and trying to continue to grow this would be a great path to take. It might not be a huge success, it'll probably never have the amount of subscribers as r/SC... but it's a step in the right direction. And if by chance the Fediverse does continue to grow, we'll have a strong foundation here ready to go.
Also worth noting that while there are growing pains for kbin... there is signs that the growth is happening. And if the rumored mobile app does come, that would make transitioning here even easier for many. I think kbin is the way to go personally. Thanks for taking the initiative to get this started Kitty.
I think Kbin looks and functions better than Lemmy, at the same time I also know that Lemmy feels a bit more Reddit-like thanks to its threaded forum style as opposed to Kbin's BB forum style. Either way, it's not really necessary to choose one or the other in the long run, thanks to federation, be it here or Lemmy I should be able to follow the content without leaving here.

I'm not necessarily opposed to using Reddit, I think there are a lot of great communities there, but I think after seeing everything Spez has done and especially the way they've acted, something else horrendous is likely coming, just look at Musk and Twitter.
I very much would like to see more activity here, and I know that should have come from us here already helping. Perhaps we could all make more effort. I don't even really need the latest rumors, I'd be happy with some weekly show discussions, not even needing them to be live threads.

It's that damn discord generation. shakes fist in air /s
Seriously, I'm glad you tried, it was always worth a shot, even if in the end it doesn't work out.
I'm glad you're sticking it out, an alternative to reddit is definitely needed and if everyone jumps back now the bulk of the drama is over (for now) then we're never going to see one.
I hope this place flourishes, even if that means I'm going to have to remove my lurker mindset that I've built up over the years.
Thanks for all your work on this and glad you are sticking around. I don't think I'll be going back to reddit and I enjoy the community that is growing here.
Honestly, there isn't much ive done besides set it up and try to generally get things settled. The users posting and sharing content here are the real ones who deserve the praise.
I just want to thank you for your efforts here! I'm a bit of a luddite and still figuring out this thing, but I hope to see more content here and participate in some live event discussion threads.
I definitely prefer the fediverse over reddit but I understand focusing more on reddit. But with everything Twitter, Reddit, and the rest are doing I'm done with closed source commercial ventures.
I might not post often but I do love seeing the discussion come up! :)
If one more voice is necessary, Il chime in. Not a redditor, only lurked a few times in the recent years. But since landing on kbin and starting to try and get into it completely blind, I hope to find more groups like this to follow. I haven't been on anything, even mastodon, for years. And I only recently got into wrestling recently thanks to my wife and some of her family. Hope this doesn't all go away before I've even had a chance to settle in...
