Finding new communities
What's the best way to find communities?
I can't seem to find communities. I've joined 4 but I'm not sure how I even found them. I think someone must have mentioned them in a comment somewhere.
Are there filter options in not aware of? I know I can search but I don't know what I don't know. I'd like to see a random selection of popular comments across all communities

Thanks all. I'm using Jerboa for Lemmy on android. I know these are simple questions but I'm pretty new to this decentralised social stuff.
So are you saying find the community on the sites you've listed then somehow link them to my account?
Is there a way I can use the same account across multiple places; lemmy.world, beehaw, kbin.social etc
I should also mention I'm on New Communities.
So Lemmy is an instance and kbin is an instance as well. Think of them as reddit as a whole. On kbin subreddits are called magazines. Idk how it works on Lemmy so much.
From my understanding threads can be federated between Lemmy and kbin. In other words you can subscribe to Lemmy "sub reddits" on kbin and visa versa. Kbin also let's you microblog in a magazine which is kind of like a tweet?
That all being said I may be wrong about some of that or have the terminology wrong so if anyone wants to correct me feel free haha
Since this was 8 hours ago I guess you've probably figured it out already. But just in case.
There are a few ways you can find new communities, but as far as I know there's no easy way on Jerboa which is probably why you're confused. Luckily the mobile site works great, especially on Android as you can install it as an app to your homescreen.
So get logged in in a browser, mobile or desktop. Now:

You're on lemmy.world, so you could visit "communities" at the top of the page when logged in and filter by "local" (for communities hosted on lemmy.world) or "all" (for all of the communities lemmy.world knows about, regardless of where they're hosted) and do a keyword search or just see what catches your eye. Clicking through from there will take you to a local version of that community where you can subscribe from the sidebar.

Alternatively you can use an external site like lemmyverse.net, which lets you set your home instance via the home icon in the top right. Then when you find an interesting looking community, you can click straight through and again it'll be a local version of that community so you can subscribe to it from the sidebar.
If you find yourself "logged out" when viewing a community, it just means it's on another instance and you've gone to the original URL instead of your local lemmy.world one. Do not panic. Just follow the instructions in the sidebar to get back to where you want to be.
This all sounds very complicated but once you've done it a couple of times it's just second nature.

I think it depends on what instance you are using? On kbin I just go to magazines type what im looking for in, click on what looks the most relevant and then hit the subscribe button on the right. Kind confusing because I see lemmy communites and some of them appear to not be what I can only describe as cross posting correctly.
Idk i've only been introduced to all this a few hours ago seems like there's lots of ongoing work for all instances though.
