I think it's fine if we don't get back to what we have like in r/malaysia, my experience from there is we can only see like a hundred of user commenting and then the 290k user is all lurker and never interact. Our highest post upvote is only around 4500, so around 98.5% of them couldn't even bother to upvote a post, let alone comment or make an og post. The sub might be big but if you post/comment a lot or interact in the daily thread, the sub is actually pretty small and rather tight-knitted
Yeah, I understand that. Though I think the value of spaces like this is also to curate quality news and resources, which is what I used Reddit for a lot.
I think there's a lot of good for having a space where people are sharing relevant and interesting news. Even if they're lurkers, it doesn't mean they're not part of the community I guess?
I dunno where I'm leading this point lol. Just that I think everyone, even lurkers have a place as part of the community. Not everyone is social, but I think r/Malaysia & r/Malaysians made it feel like everyone is welcome regardless, and I'd like that feeling to carry on wherever the community goes.
I just saw @test@[email protected] with a cool username, and like hell, this is a blue ocean for stupid usernames but i went and used my boring username.
You can grab the only one of common names like James or Ali or Chan or Muthu. Or silly ones like AutoAdmin. Or really difficult ones like _underscore_
And you can preview your text, which Sync for Reddit have both this function while official app doesn't. The app dev team is really lacking the urgency of making these qol change, but they like shoving useless feature to people
I commented on the post in Reddit but I'll comment here as well. Is there any way I can help with running the Lemmy instance? I am not an experienced dev yet(I suck at ops and support) but I would love to contribute in any way I can :)
Gaaah stalked all the way from reddit to monyet.cc!
I hereby offer this backlit shot of a pile of Japanese rice as tribute. May it appease the members here.
Image 1: Image is a digital photograph depicting short grain rice in a bowl. In the background are ceramic ware which appear to be japanese tea cups. The rice is backlit, and the rice grains are visible as translucent grains. The rice is topped with pink coloured granules of indeterminate origin, which appear to be seasoning/garnish.
Oh wow, can upload pic inside/among the text! That's nifty.
Anyone have any idea how this work lol, i tried to search the community from another instance but it just didn't work, like i couldn't access [email protected] via this instance but able to when using lemmy.world, i thought its federalised
@Annoyed_Crabby how did you do your search? One way that's mostly foolproof is locate the full URL and copy then paste on the search bar of the instance you're logged into. Basically you shouldn't need to have another login
Forgot to add, sometimes the full URL search is better if you suspect no one from the instance has subscribed yet (so the community isn't fully fetched even though technically in the federation) but once someone subscribes that instance should have it
@unhedged just fyi, the msians who managed to berkampung in fediverse earlier tend to post daily makan pix under #MakanApaToday - if you click tag you shd able to see the posts. And feel free to use tooooo
Whenever there's a new website brewing I always try to snag canon-media usernames lol. Siapa cepat dia dapat xp My username in r/malaysia is different... I'd say that I do frequent the sub often though
wooooo looks interesting! Glad we could have this kind of dt type post again. Discord is so messy, me krai krai. Though gonna need sometime to actually get used and learn how to use this. Thanks mods for creating this. Though can post pics or not? My cats love attention.
Crab!! I went to Bukit Serindit Park the other day (been so long since i last visited ha ha), you and other redditors would have a lot of fun there if you guys hang out in Melaka again. Just saying.
I FINALLY downloaded the taobao app. I wouldn't say it's amazing, but the review and comment culture on Taobao is SO much better than on Lazada.
In general, Chinese product listings are quite dodgy looking and extremely posed. Sometimes I'd want to see how a certain driveshaft is set up for the kitchen mixer paddle, but the product shots don't show the kemaluan inside the mixing bowl.
The review photos and text however, are extremely informative. While there is still a certain confirmation bias (seeing the good you want to see in your investment/purchase), it is still a very good resource.
I had thought the main hurdle would be searching for products. Eg, if i want a pressure cooker and I don't know the name, do I need to use google translate, and copy the chinese word for "pressure cooker" into the search bar? Surprisngly no. You can type in English and it still shows the results that DO NOT have english names/listings. Seems the search function is built with a translation tool. Nifty.
Halloooo - actually i never really hung out on Reddit before this. Menyibuk because I'm more of a twitter person who moved to fediverse back in Nov lol
