CR Tests Show Electric Car Range Can Fall Far Short of Claims
Over the past year, Consumer Reports sought to answer this question by conducting seasonal testing on popular, new EVs: Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Tesla Model Y, and Volkswagen ID.4.
Looks like Tesla is BSing their max range.
Sooooo, Tesla tends to overpromise and under deliver on its range numbers. Familiar. It did have an honest edge, but not nearly as big as its factory range boasts.
That said, the number for Model Y range in the article, 326 miles, is the official EPA rating, not just whatever Tesla decided to slap on the marketing copy. Then it only slightly outperformed the competition on range in these tests, or merely matched them. That's weird, and suggests that there's either something in the EPA test that favors Tesla, but doesn't show up on the road, or that Tesla is somehow gaming the test to get a good number.
