Two things can be true. Israel can be committing genocide in the middle east, and terrorists in Canada can be systemically targeting Jewish Canadians. Recognizing one of these truths does not negate the other.
My wife is Canadian Jewish. She has nothing to do with Israel, has never been there and has zero interest about Israeli politics or most politics. But too many damn people recently can't or refuse to see the difference. Even on Lemmy, the line has now blurred and the masks are starting to come off with many people who are using this war across the planet as an excuse to hate on their neighbors here
Israel has worked very hard to build that assumption everywhere it can, driving home that a lack of support for anything Israel does is somehow antisemitic. They use people like your wife as a shield for their crimes and a disturbing portion of her community is cheerleading their genocide.
They are doing this in her name, whether she "cares about politics" or not, so I would suggest she get out there with her community and remind the world that Israel does not speak for her.
