Really hesitated to make this, but it's been so long, with the last mention being "hopefully they'll be done in the next few days".
I've been pestering via the feedback button, along with other users. There's people in chat asking almost every day if memories are coming back.
They're a pretty important part of keeping things coherent. I know your focus isn't on the AI chat at all...but man...we would really, REALLY appreciate these being back.
Also side note, there was a post on Reddit, requesting to 'clear' the message input after sending a 'command'. Ex. you typed /ai [your instruction], then after sending the message, the command is still on the input box. I think they want to 'clear' the input box even after using a command, maybe an option to clear after sending the command or have the input stay on the input box.
Also, possibly any way to add custom shortcuts through the Custom Code? So that we could 'bake in' the shortcuts to the characters instead of on the threads. Just a thought.
I kind of rely on it not disappearing automatically. I don't think that user knows that you can also clear the box by clicking on any character shortcut. Or, you know, ctrl-A then backspace, lol.
(The reason I like it staying is in case the AI response isn't quite what I wanted, I can delete the message, edit my instructions without retyping the whole thing, and try another generation.)
(Edit: Just saw that you suggested an option. That's good too, lol)

Yes, any way of calling imported characters without it being a physical user command would be a godsend. Would allow for more intricate automation, maybe even having characters trigger automatically if their names come up.
No, thank you for pestering, and sorry for the massive delay! I clearly did not accurately guess how long it'd take for me to get around to this, but I should have at least updated y'all on the timeline. This was second-next in line on my todo list, but I moved it to first place and spent all of today on it. I'll have it finished by tomorrow (in my timezone) unless something goes terribly wrong. I'll send you a link, and if you can test it for me (on a long chat, which you'll have to start from scratch) and confirm I didn't break anything, and that it works well, then I'll push those changes to /ai-character-chat
Okay, first pass is finished, but it might be worth waiting for me to do a proper debug/test before you give it a try: https://perchance.org/sgm39au1s3
I've only lightly tested. Brain button should work. But /mem editing is probably buggy so I'd advise against trying to use that for anything other than viewing created memories for now, since it might mess stuff up if you try editing.
You'll need to get the thread to 5k or maybe 10k works before the memories start getting created (same as for summaries). The main thing I'm expecting to not work well is the AI may overly focus on the memories, or may retrieve irrelevant memories which derails the story/chat. I still need to "tune" that aspect of things.
I'll send another reply here tomorrow once I've done enough testing that it seems to work well on my end - it'll probably be a better use of your time to test at that point, but if you want to dabble with this 'alpha' version, feel free, of course. Thanks again for pushing me on this!
