Back not even 20 years ago I swear Olympians were not making bank. They were just regular people.
Most of them still do. She's ridiculously successful and that gives you sponsorship money, she's basically the exception.
They still aren't unless they are peak
There was a time when the Olympics were only open to amateurs. They changed it a while back, thus giving us the dream team.
