Same as that so far! The fact he addresses him as 'Pennyworth' says a lot. Like The Batman had a similar dynamic with Battinson, but you could tell they cared about each other and that Bruce just didn't particularly like being told what to do with the Bruce Wayne side of his life. So far I don't think the season is hitting that same tone, but again, same as you I'll wait til I've seen the end.
I just watched the first three last night and I'm enjoying it. So far, though... there's nothing new. Just different takes on old villains, and not necessarily with great writing / character motivations. It looks gorgeous, but could use a few more frames here and there, especially in regards to facial expressions, which seldom change from plain.
I dunno, I'm absolutely going to finish watching it, but the more I think about it right now, the more I feel kinda disappointed. Hopefully the formula changes and does something new and worthwhile over the course of the season.
I enjoyed it overall! I would rank it behind BTAS and Batman Beyond, but still good. While I enjoy much of the Batman content I've seen, I especially enjoy the more grounded takes on the character. This definitely has some of that, along with a decent mix of more fantastical things too. I haven't made up my mind yet on a few of the character changes, but it's not a major thing. I did get a laugh out of all the callbacks in episode 8 though! There were some in the other episodes too, but that one especially stood out.
Just finished season 1. It is very well done. I wouldn’t put it on the same level as BtAS, but it could be a close second if season 2 is also as good. It got progressively darker as the season progressed. I both really liked how it was more grounded and noir like but I could have used a little more Batman action.
I'd agree with that - not on the same level as BTAS, but still very decent!
It's very noir, but it's also not afraid to address into the fantastical, which I liked a lot. I think some things that were changed from the norm were a little unusual - I get that they need to differentiate the show, but some changes seem rather trivial and (so far) there doesn't seem to have been much need for the changes?
I'm wary of giving spoilers if anyone who hasn't seen the show/ contemplating watching it, so feel free to drop me a message if you want to discuss anything in depth.
