Explanation: The Roman military in the 1st century AD was an absolute juggernaut when facing the Germanic tribes, many of whom came for 'war' with fire-hardened spears, with only the warrior elite possessing swords and armor. By the 4th century AD, however, the Germanic tribes had learned from their Roman neighbors and came to war on more-or-less equal terms, which was terribly unfair!
