Anyone know where I can find a decent collection of curated Doom mods?

These are the Cacowards from Doomworld, All separated by date and category as well as given proper names. But, this does not include the other awards category...

The link attached to this post contains all Cacoaward winners from 2004 to 2020. I have seen a few others on Archive.org such as this one but they seem more focused on backing up everything.

I am wondering if there is a collection of total conversion mods like Total Chaos, Trench Foot, and Ashes 2063 for example.

I imagine there are a lot of best Doom WAD lists out there but it would be nice to not have to go through the effort of downloading them individually.

  • I guess I consider the Cacowards themselves as the most visible curation of Doom mods online. I'm not aware of anyone repacking sets of mods together for convenient download.

That's kind of a thing in the Bethesda mod communities where installing multiple mods together sometimes requires compatability changes and so a curated mod collection is actually a multi-mod in itself. But most Doom mods tend to be singular things or easily composable.

I use Doom Launcher to manage all my mods and maps and it works very well for that, letting you easily build sets of mods+maps to use together, and it can download files from the idgames archive so that's convenient too.

Otherwise, i dunno, maybe this is a good pitch for a Doom-heavy YouTuber like Mutant Mods or Mr. Icarus? It's extra work for them, but doing a showcase video plus a bundle to get all the mods showcased would make for fun content. I imagine that getting permission from all the authors would be troublesome though.

Is there something like this for GZDoom? A lot of what I have been playing says to use it specifically.

I have been following Mutant Mods for a while. decino and Vargskelethor's Vine Mapping Contest 2016 also showed off some neat Doom maps. I'll check out Mr Icarus.

I didn't think of that part. I guess I am too used to seeing massive WAD collections posted and sold everywhere.
