In order to ensure that this Lemmy instance is able to keep up with our necessary moderation tasks, community creation is restricted. For now, I’ve created a few basic and very general communities. If you have suggestions for additional communities, feel free to post them here!
Before we create a new community, we will require that a certain number of ardent moderators have volunteered to handle that community. Keeping things moderated is one of the main tenants of keep the fediverse healthy. If any communities become unmoderated and unruly, they will need to be pruned from the instance.
Two communities that I considered adding, but decided against, were: Leaks and Trades.
Ultimately, I don't think a Leaks community is a great idea. Even though Lemmy gives users the ability to block or subscribe to the channels they want, and we could use the NSFW filter as well, I think it would still be controversial. The Leaks subreddit is dead now anyway, so if you want leaks go to the Pipeline discord.
The Trades sub-reddit is fairly structured and is mostly spam. I don't see much value in trying to move that content unless that community wanted to do so.
I was thinking maybe we need a "resources" section? SC has a lot of community made sites and utilities. Having a place to share those things would be handy.
It helps you manage launcher stuff, like backing up your controller mappings and clearing user data, etc. I don't know if we need a full community for this kind of stuff, but I don't see a reason not too. In other communities these things would be drowned out by other random posts.
