What to change to my moonlander layout?

After watching numerous youtube videos and scrolling through a lot of posts on reddit and layouts on Oryx, I ended up with this 32 key layout that I really like.

It's mostly just a colemak-dh layout, with the Q key removed and replaced by the WF combo.

I'm also using the following combos:

  • RST - esc
  • NEI - enter
  • LUY - tab
  • xcd - Ctrl
  • H,. - Alt

The only thing I'm kind of missing is the arrow keys. Any ideas how to introduce them?

  • There are two popular ways to layout the arrow keys. The first is popular with VIM users and uses QWERTY positions HJKL (your MNEI) for left, down, up, right, in that order. One disadvantage to this traditional position is that HJ are both index finger keys so can't be pressed left and down at the same time, so some people choose to move this over to the right one more key (your NEIO). The second popular option is QWERTY positions WASD (your WARS) is popular among gamers since its used by so many games. Here you can't press up and down together, which I've found to be a perfectly fine limitation. Since most gamers use middle finger for up/down, a lot of people also shift this one over to be in QWERTY ESRD (your FRST).

With either the above, all the arrow keys are on one hand so you can create a two key combo with the other hand to activate them. I would suggest including on that layer page up/page down/home/end. I've certainly seen some people too that like to split up the arrow keys with up/down on one hand and left/right on the other hand, but those are a bit easier with dedicate keys or a more permanent layer.
