Hello, does anyone here know if the messenger 'Briar' can be used in China?

Or does the operating system or 'WeChat' immediately report it to the government?

Maybe someone here can say something about this. Gladly also about 'Briar'.

  • Of course you can use it, don't be silly! The government doesn't actively monitor your apps or internet activity.

      • Did you even read the article you linked? The only concrete claim this article makes as to government monitoring citizens' internet activity is that services are required to log user data (messages sent, browsing history) for around 6 months. This is literally standard practice around the world.

        • No, you see, it's only bad when non-westerners, specifically non-usanians do it.

          • Now if you will excuse me I'm going to go to Facebook for my daily rants about TikTok harvesting my data.

            • despite tiktok being a fully independent, disconnected branch of douyin lol

              • Confession but at one point for a while I actually bought into the data scare about TikTok. I still don't use it but that's mostly because I don't really like it's format or the way a lot of the videos are cut because it destroys my ability to pay attention. My wife shares them with me but I usually can't visually watch and have to listen because the jumpcuts that a lot of the content creators do just sends me to attention deficit hell.

                • I don’t have ADHD and also hate the format

                  • I don't know if I actually have ADHD or possibly on the spectrum so it's basically a self diagnosis. My wife thinks I'm probably ASD(and after doing a few online assessmentsi agree) but I shouldn't really claim either without a proper diag I guess. I was mostly meaning that it kills any chance I had of paying attention to the video lol.
