Ima miss /r/perth, but honestly even without the current API nonsense I've been uncomfortable with reddit's trajectory for a while.

How do we get more communities to show on perthchat.org's lemmy instance?
Happy to bail on reddit, but need to get it with more content from around the world...
I've noticed that communities from other instances don't show up unless someone is already tracking them.
It happened here at lemmy.perthchat.org when I was trying to find !selfhosted[email protected] I think. Search for it (with 'all' selected), didn't show up, entered lemmy.perthchat.org/c/[email protected] in the url bar, subscribed, went back to search again and there it was.
Someone needs to:
- Sign up on lemmy.perthchat.org
- Search for a remote community from the Perth Chat instance (mine for instance [email protected])
- Subscribe to it
- Wait for scraping to happen
It doesn't really work for dead instances where not much activity happens because the subscription only works as new activity happens, it doesn't backfill comments, only posts.
