I thought about getting one, but more of the "bucket in front" Netherland style. I'm too lazy to go shopping once a week, when I'm going to fill that thing up to the top.
The ones that ride on the front wheel mean you have to shift the load for all steering, for even the slightest correction. Inconvenient, and dangerous even.
So as a Dutch dad who owns one of these I can say my only regret is not getting one sooner, my kids absolutely adore riding in it. However in the Netherlands our infrastructure is very much geared towards bikes so keep in mind that the experience will be different, because they are more difficult to stear and maneuver than a normal bike.
Infrastructure here in Germany is okish, getting better. And in my city there are plenty of ... What's gender neutral for bakfietsmoeder? Bakfietsouders? It seems to be ok.
Those are nice! I belong to a bike sharing service and I am able to rent them by the minute or by the hour. It takes a bit of getting used to but you can sure carry a lot of stuff.
