New front-end ready to use: Photon

Based on some feedback we received, I've added Photon as a possible front-end for feddit.nl.

You can find it by browsing to ph.feddit.nl.

Enjoy!

  • Maybe its me but I'm having issues with Photon whereas if I use the regular UI it works fine. For example, this post on Photon shows no immediate and obvious way to respond but when I switched to the std UI I ca add a comment like I am doing right now.

Also, in Photon the "Subscribed" browse option is disabled and shows no posts at all (my default view is Subscribed, hence I could see the issue of no posts.

I had a couple more (some security related messages, maybe SSL issues?)

I'll switch back to the default UI for now as having functionality is more important then some visuals. I mean, Photon is nice and all but it is not so groundbreaking that I keep using it despite the issues I encountered.

But I appreciate the Photon devs immensely, I see it as a step in the right direction!

    • I've just upgraded photon to the latest release, is this still happening?

      • Still happening it seems:

I also could not get this picture to upload to this post, had to fall back to the default UI. Also, still no way to respond in general to a post (not a reply but a comment on a post itself).

        • That's really weird. Does the browser console show some error that might point us in a direction?

          • I use Librefox but I see the same behavior on Chrome.

            • Your account isn't active. Click your account on the sidebar to use it.

              • Ha! Well, I did not know about that and it worked! Thanks!

Question though, and I might be classified as an idiot and I am willing to risk it but, how was I supposed to know I needed to click on my picture?
I saw the picture and my name/handle so I assumed I was logged in and ready to go.

                But again, mucho gracias!

                • update: in v1.20.0, i've added an explicit guest button which should make it more obvious when you're a guest:

                • I'll make it more obvious if you're using a guest account later today. (I'll add a "guest" option and show that as selected if you're not active in a user account)

That's a good question you have, and a bad design on my part.

(you can also view all the accounts you have from the accounts page)
