Probably because it’s not that big a deal and would cost far more to fix than it cost us in fraud. The only problem free system is a nonexistent system. WTF should I care that some database thinks someone is as old as our nation. Who knows, it might possibly be true.
I care if there are benefits being paid out to that imaginary person.
Of course - they need to fix this. You need to know exactly what your tax money is used for. This shouldn't be a right/left conversation. Data integrity should be in order. If not fix it - or have at least an assessment and a long term plan.
