The EU Cyber Resilience Act will introduce new cybersecurity requirements for software released in the EU. Learn what it means for your open source projects and what GitHub is doing to ensure the law will be a net win for open source maintainers.

One example is the OSHW-certified BeagleV-Ahead, which uses an (open source) Xuantie C910.
I have no idea about open source manufacturing tools though.
Almost can't wait to put my hands on one of these

A corny Emacs?
I just got myself a Corne 3x6 keyboard. This probably means that I will drop evil-mode and instead solve ergonomics through home row mods. I will also try out Colemak. But one step at a time.
I'm curious if any of my fellow Lemmies also use Emacs with Corne and if you would like to share your key maps? Or hard learned lessons?
Has anyone tried the BeagleV-Ahead?
Interesting. Thanks!
That one looks promising. Thanks!
Looking for a RISC-V single board computer for basic home server
I need to configure a basic home server that can run Nextcloud and GoToSocial. I would like to use a libre RISC-V single board computer. What are good bang-for-the-buck alternatives as of December 2024?
It's much more powerful though. Based on Org-Mode.
Seems pretty cool! I have to try it out. Thanks for sharing.
I really hope this means we will see high end open source chips sooner rather than later. Maybe EU and China could team up on this. The current situation isn't sustainable.
You're right. It's a Guix issue. My bad. They do patch the config.

Mastodon simply is a different thing than X/Bluesky. It's more like RSS/Blog/IRC. It will never go mainstream unless they add (opt out) algorithms and a better search functionality. But maybe that's just not worth it. Mastodon has already lost to Bluesky when it comes to being an open mainstream Twitter replacement.
I'm curious about if it's even technically possible to build something federated that feels like a Twitter replacement, using the ActivityPub protocol.
Mozzarella extensions are seriously outdated!
Howdy!
I recently started using LibreWolf (because there is no good Firefox package for Guix ATM). However, when I tried to install my standard extensions, I was redirected to the Mozzarella web page. I thought "fine, I'm a good GNU citizen" and installed a few extensions. But soon I realized that the were seriously outdated and also dysfunctional. For example, the Bitwarden extension is from July 2023.
Shouldn't LibreWolf stop sending users to Mozzarella if it's a dead project hosting outdated extensions, considering all the security issues that implies?
Not much. Except for less competent leadership short term. And probably more forks long term.
I don't think so. Probably not. It's a classical argument when starting a war (Germany/WW1 and Japan/WW2), that's why I brought it up.
I.e. if you believe there is a very high risk for war at SOME point, then you probably want to take control of the situation and start the war at a time and place of your choice. If you can destroy 90% of NKs ICMBs (or other kinds of carriers) today, it's better to start the war now, if the new technology will bring that number down to say 50% by tomorrow.
The conspiracy theorist in me says that it's not impossible that the recent coup attempt in SK was somehow related to this kind of thinking. This is how the military tend to reason after all.

Maybe you could move abroad? Canada or the EU? I.e. some western country with a better welfare system. If you don't have friends or family, that might be an option. And if you're healthy enough.
I guess the counter argument would be that the situation will only get worse the longer you wait. That argument has been used many times in history.
That's an argument I don't agree with. I believe the perceived risks of nuclear fallout is negligible in most cases. Especially when talking tactical nukes. For sure a risk North Korea (or Russia) would be willing to take.
Isn't it possible that China will find this situation intolerable as well? I find it quite likely that North Korea will change its attitude towards China if balls grow too big. Make demands etc.
Should South Korea launch a preemptive attack on North Korea?
The Nato chief is saying that North Korea is getting access to Russian missile and nuclear technology, in exchange for troops. If this is true, should South Korea launch a preemptive attack on North Korea before these new technologies are properly integrated and utilized?
Should I buy Wartales?
Wartales is an open world RPG in which you lead a group of mercenaries in their search for wealth across a massive medieval universe. Explore the world, recruit companions, collect bounties and unravel the secrets of the tombs of the ancients!
I really liked Battle brothers. Should I buy? Or are there better alternatives in the same genre?
Competitive multiplayer TBT games?
Is there any TBT game with an active multiplayer community that is not a card game and not "pay-to-win" a la crazy mobile games?
What does this mean? Have they hacked a Matrix server, a client, the protocol, or is there some other underground chat-app called MATRIX?
Missing dependencies in/with Steam (nonguix)
Howdy!
Probably not the best place to ask, but I'll give it a try. For the sake of a flourishing Fediverse.
I'm trying out Guix and have installed Steam through the nonguix channel. Unfortunately, almost no games work. Probably because of missing/wrong version of stdlibc++ (and probably more). I got this error when I tried to launch Victoria 3:
./victoria3: /usr/lib/pressure-vessel/overrides/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.30' not found (required by ./victoria3)
I.e. GLIBCXX_3.4.30 is missing. How can I fix this? Is it possible to add multiple GLIBCXX versions to the Steam package? Any ideas? And shouldn't Steam be self contained?
Issue with eglot and xref
Howdy!
I'm experiencing an issue with eglot and xref-find-definition in ada-mode. Maybe someone can help.
So this is the situation: sometimes when I use xref-find-definition lsp does not work, and xref asks for a TAGS file. However, at the same time I get a popup from eglot (I think), showing the definition. It appears the connection between eglot and xref is unstable. I want xref-find-definition to work all the time (don't care about the popup really).
I'm using the following hook for eglot: > (add-hook 'prog-mode-hook #'eglot-ensure)
Any suggestions on what triggers this behavior or how I should debug this (I'm kind of an Emacs noob)?
Oh, and I'm using Emacs 29.3.

Is there any EU based producer of premium ErgoMechs?
I know there is the Ultimate Gadget Laboratories (ultimate hacker keyboard) but I'm looking fore something more Cornish. And I want premium grade stuff that has a CE stamp. I.e. no low quality 3D-print plastics that will give me a rash or maybe cancer in a couple of years. Something like ZSA or Kinesis.
So, is there any?
