What fresh hell is this?
  • It is not free. It takes a ton of time to build and maintain this software.

    labor value != commodity value

    If you’re thinking all software developers will switch philosophies suddenly to think like you, I don’t really know what to tell you other than that will absolutely never happen.

    Nobody is suggesting otherwise, it is simply incorrect to say the consumer always pays for an application. There are many apps and software that is free to use and modify, and you do not always pay with your time or your privacy.

    Ps. Did you really think there was a chance you needed to remind me Lemmy is not commercial software?

    It was a convenient counterexample to the point being made.

    Pps. I typically use boost to view Lemmy and that is commercial software. Showing there is no need to expect everyone to develop all software for free. $3 was a fuckin bargain

    Yup, but Lemmy itself is free to use or adapt.

  • What fresh hell is this?
  • "You either pay for an app with money or with privacy" is just factually incorrect

    There are lots of apps that do not require you to pay for with either your privacy or your currency.

    Example: you are using an open-sourced application right now that is both free and private.

  • This isn't really true, even with being extremely vague.

    Liberalism, as described by Locke, was primarily concerned with individual liberty (as mentioned), but included in those liberties was the right to private property. In fact, he was among the first to describe it as a 'natural law'.

    US liberals co-opt the label with emphasis on the social liberties, and neo-liberals co-opt the label with emphasis on the personal property.

    Leftist politics, being primarily oriented along a materialist axis, is concerned with both social and economic liberation and identifies systems of oppression in both governance and capital owners. Referring to 'liberals' as 'leftist' ignores the central ideological focus of leftist politics to begin with.

  • I will always point to mlk as a response to this question:

    I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically feels that he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time; and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

  • Joe Biden reportedly more open to calls for him to step aside as candidate
  • Except in this case it's actually against the law to continue supplying military aid

    Except under circumstances specified in this section, no security assistance may be provided to any country the government of which engages in a consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally recognized human rights.

  • Republicans wear ear bandages in 'solidarity' with Trump
  • I’m pointing out the aspect of worshipping a person, not the goodness or badness of that person.

    Lmao, that's not what I'm saying. He loves attention, absolutely. I'm commenting on his personal feelings about being shot at and wounded, not his feelings of being adored. Trump talks a big game about violence but can't stomach being a part of it himself. He famously dodged the draft by faking bone spurs and has called wounded and disabled veterans 'disgusting'. I don't think he enjoys people highlighting the fact he almost died by drawing attention to his injury from it.

    He likes being able to say he was the victim of a shooting, but he likely does not see actually getting hit a flattering quality. Like for the shoe, he didn't even pick the famous photo from that day, he picked an objectively worse one where his ear isn't even shown and he's posing just like he does at every rally. It it weren't for a dribble of blood on his cheek this picture could be mistaken for any other day of his campaign.

    No, I don't think he enjoys people taping gauze on their ears in reference to his injury.

    Republicans wear ear bandages in 'solidarity' with Trump
  • Depends, is his bleeding ear a symbol of eternal life and forgiveness of sins, too?

    I find the comparison to religion kind of laughable. As full of himself Trump is I do not think he shares Christ's confidence of heavenly ascendance. He sure as fuck doesn't want to die, but especially not as a sacrifice for the sins of his followers.

    Docker Help: Port collisions when using container-networking

    edit: a working solution is proposed by @[email protected] below:

    >So you’re trying to get 2 instances of qbt behind the same Gluetun vpn container?

    >I don’t use Qbt but I certainly have done in the past. Am I correct in remembering that in the gui you can change the port?

    >If so, maybe what you could do is set up your stack with 1 instance in, go into the GUI and change the port on the service to 8000 or 8081 or whatever.

    >Map that port in your Gluetun config and leave the default port open for QBT, and add a second instance to the stack with a different name and addresses for the config files.

    >Restart the stack and have 2 instances.

    -----

    Has anyone run into issues with docker port collisions when trying to run images behind a bridge network (i think I got those terms right?)?

    I'm trying to run the arr stack behind a VPN container (gluetun for those familiar), and I would really like to duplicate a container image within the stack (e.g. a separate download client for different types of downloads). As soon as I set the network_mode to 'service' or 'container', i lose the ability to set the public/internal port of the service, which means any image that doesn't allow setting ports from an environment variable is stuck with whatever the default port is within the application.

    Here's an example .yml:

    ``` services: gluetun: image: qmcgaw/gluetun:latest container_name: gluetun cap_add: - NET_ADMIN environment: - VPN_SERVICE_PROVIDER=mullvad - VPN_TYPE=[redacted] - WIREGUARD_PRIVATE_KEY=[redacted] - WIREGUARD_ADDRESSES=[redacted] - SERVER_COUNTRIES=[redacted] ports: - "8080:8080" #qbittorrent - "6881:6881" - "6881:6881/udp" - "9696:9696" # Prowlarr - "7878:7878" # Radar - "8686:8686" # Lidarr - "8989:8989" # Sonarr restart: always
    qbittorrent: image: lscr.io/linuxserver/qbittorrent:latest container_name: "qbittorrent" network_mode: "service:gluetun" environment: - PUID=1000 - PGID=1000 - TZ=CST/CDT - WEBUI_PORT=8080 volumes: - /docker/appdata/qbittorrent:/config - /media/nas_share/data:/data) ``` Declaring ports in the qbittorrent service raises an error saying you cannot set ports when using the service network mode. Linuxserver.io has a WEBUI_PORT environment variable, but using it without also setting the service ports breaks it (their documentation says this is due to CSRF issues and port mapping, but then why even include it as a variable?)
    The only workaround i can think of is doing a local build of the image that needs duplication to allow ports to be configured from the e variables, OR run duplicate gluetun containers for each client which seems dumb and not at all worthwhile.
    Has anyone dealt with this before?
    'but why are you only complaining about DEMOCRATS?'
    It's educate, AGITATE, organize
    edit: putting this at the top so people understand the basis for this:
    >You may well ask: “Why direct action? Why sit ins, marches and so forth? Isn’t negotiation a better path?” You are quite right in calling for negotiation. Indeed, this is the very purpose of direct action. Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks so to dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored. My citing the creation of tension as part of the work of the nonviolent resister may sound rather shocking. But I must confess that I am not afraid of the word “tension.” I have earnestly opposed violent tension, but there is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth. Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood.
