It's a bug. You can start a reply in a given thread, the URL stays the same but the page content changes to something unrelated. So when you post the comment it goes to the wrong thread.

If I hit refresh then I'll get my original post back, but then half the time I go and find the mysterious post because I want to read it now I got a taste.
Top comment of the pooping post had the same situation happen. It's actually a feature, not a bug 😅
