OSHAWA: Neighbourhood speed pilot program
The City has introduced new reduced speed limits within select neighbourhoods.
Not sure if any other municipalities in Durham Region are doing the same, but several areas in Oshawa have had their speed limits reduced from 50km/h to 40km/h.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like these new speeds are being enforced, since I'm seeing people going well beyond 40km/h in these areas.

To what end? Has there recently been a significant amount of collisions? Or is this just bureaucracy creep?
My guess is to bolster Vision Zero, which is what Toronto has been doing with 30km/h residential zones.
Many other Canadian cities are doing the same, so it's not just us.
But it is a pilot right now, and they'll be collecting data on the impacts of the speed reductions.
I'd like to see major roads also get speed reductions, at least until multi use paths or bike lanes can be put next to them. Too many roadways marked 60km/h+ are just too unsafe for most non-automobile traffic, and that shouldn't be the case.
Another solution is to remove non-automobile traffic from 60+km roads.
What would that solve, though?
Accessibility to roadways is a right reserved to more than just cars, and cutting people off from moving around would seem like an embarrassing step backwards for the region.
