I had to disable federation due to abuse that created heavy resource usage and outages in the recent weeks. Situation seems to be stabilised at the moment.
If you want/need some homeserver whitelisted - please comment, write a message or ping me on matrix @saint:group.lt.
In general - if you have issues with matrix - don't be shy ;)

@saint Any idea if it was related to the recent spam attacks on ActivityPub servers? Or just some other script kiddie? I'm not as aware of what's going on with Matrix servers.
I am not sure if that is related, but technically Matrix uses a different protocol from ActivityPub, so it had to be targeted specifically
@saint I know it's different. I was just wondering if it was the same person doing a separate attack at the same time. I see one or two other Matrix servers saying they're suffering attacks around the same time, I didn't check more than that though. Hopefully it doesn't happen again!
from the logs it would seem that synapse went down not due to share volume of traffic, but special malformed usernames - so it seems a different pattern was used (if it is was an attack)
@saint So probably someone else of it was an attack then. Hopefully it gets patched in Synapse so it can't happen again.
