MotoGP is looking to introduce concessions to help Honda and Yamaha so the Japanese manufacturers can become competitive again, Carlos Ezpeleta, chief sporting officer of commercial rights holders Dorna Sports, has said.
What do you think about the idea of both Japanese manufacturers receiving concessions from MotoGP? Personally, I hope that it ends up happening if only to bring more competition to the field. I fear that a continued lack of success from HRC and Yamaha will inspire their corporations to go the way of Suzuki and leave the sport.
Apologies if this is a repost. I'm new to Lemmy so I'm still trying to figure out the whole system here.
Their continued lack of success is their own fault though. Aprilia and KTM both when through their shit years and built good bikes. Do we really think Yamaha and Honda need or deserve special early concession treatment that other manufacturers weren't afforded just because they had never been the big dogs before?
My thinking here is that Honda has had a shit bike for years and it just hasn't shown because Marquez was riding it beyond the limit. The same rings true to me for Yamaha to a lesser extent with Quatararo riding to his only MotoGP world championship. Outside of those two riders, neither bike has been truly competitive week in and week out for years. I see concessions as something to help the engineers more than the riders which is why I think they may be due for both of the Japanese factories.
