What is this tangled ball found indoors in Colorado?

Found this tangled ball of... something? No liquid near it, no movement. I untangled it and was still stumped! It is about 1 foot long Tangled form

Please note: I hastily started untangling it before takimg pictures, the "tangled form" pic is less tightly of a wound ball than how I originally found it
